Counselling session

Counselling can start with your enquiry, I offer an initial session (in person or by video call), which gives us a chance to see if we would like to work together and for you to ask any questions you may have. The session will explore your current circumstances and some details of your history. We can use our time together for you to share what is going on in your life, and what brings you to seek counselling.

In-person and online sessions

I offer both short-term and long-term counselling in person, through video conferencing or via telephone sessions, if travel is not possible or desirable.

Practical information

Here is some practical information you may want to know before your session.

During the coronavirus, I am offering sessions via Zoom, for while meeting in person is not possible or uncomfortable for you.

I am also offering face to face sessions, while restrictions are lifted.

Please read our Counselling Agreement, which covers confidentiality. We will work through this together in your first session.

I am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (reference ZA538074). All data is stored under the conditions stated in the GDPR, as it applies in the UK.

I make every effort to keep my session prices accessible.

I offer you a fixed appointment time which will be the same time and day every week.

Fees are payable in cash at our appointment, or online by BACS payment at least a day before the session, which helps me to keep track of payments.

In this therapeutic relationship, your agreed, weekly session time is a regular slot that is reserved for you, therefore any cancellations or missed session without at minimum 24 hours prior notice will incur a full session fee.

I will let you know the dates when I will be on annual leave well in advance. I may be away for up to two–three weeks in the summer or at Christmas, and I may occasionally be away at other times for personal and training reasons. There will be no requirement to pay when I am not available.

Please give at least two sessions’ notice if you intend to end or pause counselling. If our work together is due to continue for more than eight sessions (or has already done so) please give four sessions’ notice of your intention to finish counselling, which will give us more time to review and work together on drawing the sessions to a close. It is important for us to have a sense of closure, whether temporary or permanent.

If you miss two consecutive sessions without getting in contact, I will assume that you do not wish to continue with counselling and your regular session time will no longer be reserved.

I work from my home in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, which is easily accessible by car or bus.

Please park on the driveway; there is a parking space in front of the house designated for clients. There are no double yellow lines or parking meters.

There is no waiting room, so I do ask that clients be mindful of other clients’ privacy and try to avoid arriving too early, as I will be unable to answer the door.
