About me
Anh Huntington
My approach to counselling is person centred, which means that we work in the here and now, which I believe is where the healing happens. I work in a personal and a relational paradigm, I have deep respect for individuals from diverse backgrounds and situations, who hold a range of different values or attitudes.
I want to offer you support where I can and understand how precious this can be at times of difficulty. I am warm and empathic, and understanding and open towards others. With my varied experiences of work and travel, I have met a range of people from different heritages, which has helped me be a better and broader-minded Counsellor. My understanding of people and enthusiasm for helping and supporting others are what led to my interest in psychotherapy and counselling.
My background is as a refugee and throughout my other life experiences, this insight has allowed me to view life through two cultures, which has been a beautiful way for me to open my mind to gratitude and to better mindfulness. This has given me a broad experience of the variety of the human condition and of other people’s needs and problems, as well as a level of maturity in understanding people and circumstances.
Counselling journey and qualifications
I am trained to work therapeutically with you in person or online. I have a Diploma and a first class Bachelor (Honours) degree in Person-Centred Counselling, accredited by BACP (the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy), Metanoia Institute in London and Middlesex University. My previous experience includes counselling adults for Mind, dealing with a range of issues including relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, stress, and abuse. I also worked in the Oxford Counselling Centre for Women, providing a supportive environment for women to explore any concerns they have with their lives.
Outside counselling, I have held managerial positions in commercial and educational organisations and understand the pressures caused by the dynamics in work environments. I work with clients who are practical or relational/transpersonal-minded, based on cognitive thinking, feelings, and instincts.
